Clonakilty, West Cork is a vibrant and picturesque coastal town, known as the beach centre of this stunning region. It was not always so and like many small towns it had to fight for its economic identity and growth. The Model Railway Village not only complemented the natural environment of the area it promoted the small towns by the delicate and intrinsic models evoking memories from days gone by. Clonakilty was the first town to be created in model form, Kinsale and Bandon are completed in full.

The Model Railway Village is an enjoyable day out for all the family. Walking round the village portrays Irish life in the 1940’s with its distinctive buildings and a model of the Fair Day in Clonakilty. Look at the old West Cork Railway Line serving the towns and delightfully portrayed in miniature.

There is always something new happening at the Model Railway Village. A fabulous new out door play area will be opening in July testing the children’s agility and firing their imagination. The playground is full of magic and adventure for the children and set in idyllic surrounds overlooking the bay. A new platform for boarding the Tschu-Tschu train will also be opening.

Coast and Country 2 066The outside grounds of the Model Railway Village are delightful and are a great place for a family picnic. There is a café and craft shop built in authentic train carriages.

The children’s Indoor Playroom is very popular especially on a wet day. The Indoor Ball Pool is a great favourite with the children. The Playroom is an ideal venue to book children’s parties and inclement weather will not spoil the day.

The road train Tschu-Tschu is a great way to see Clonakilty. Tschu-Tschu can also be hired for wedding parties, say from the Church to the Reception in the Clonakilty Area. It can hold 45 adults for the trip.

If you are spending time in Clonakilty a trip to the Model Railway Village is a must. The centre can be found just outside the Town on the Inchydoney Road.
